Field Day is Finally Here!
The 2023 Field Day was a little different that usual for most of the students at Mount Vernon Woods. Kindergarteners had their field day on 6/6. These students enjoyed games such as Hula-Hoop Toss, Potato Sack Races, and relay races involving eggs and wet sponges.
The older students were eagerly looking forward to their turn the following Thursday, when something unexpected occured. Due to smoke from forest fires in Canada, the air quality was too poor for students to spend time out on the field. Field Day was postponed until Friday, but then it was postponed again to Wednesday of the next week.
Finally it was actually Field Day! The students were ready for their turn to have fun in the sun... or in the case of 1st - 3rd graders, the rain. Luckily the sun made an appearance for the upper grades field day session. Regardless of the weather students had a fantastic time. A cacophony of giggles and laughter could be heard across the field at Mount Vernon Woods Elementary as students participated in relay races, skee ball, bowling, water games, and everyone's favorite... the parachute. Everyone agreed that this year's Field Day was a day they would not soon forget, and well worth the wait.
