English Language Arts Strategies
Outcome:
- By June 2025, Kindergarten and First grade students identified as High Risk on VALLSS at the beginning of the year will shift from High Risk Band to Moderate Risk or better in code-based subtests.
- MVW will continue to achieve SOA level 1 in reading for all subgroups (at least 70% adjusted pass rate on grade 3-6 reading SOL tests).
Strategies:
- Increase efficiency of instructional delivery to ensure all students have daily access to all components of the language arts block as outlined in the new core curriculum.
- Use embedded formative assessments in the new core curriculum to guide tier 1 and tier 2 instructional decisions.
- Increase intentional use of multisensory, visual, verbal, written and/or interactive scaffolds and supports in whole group settings.
Mathematics Strategies
Outcome:
- MVW will continue to achieve SOA level 1 in math for all subgroups (at least 70% adjusted pass rate on grade 3-6 reading SOL tests).
Strategies:
- Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.
- Increase teachers' content knowledge and implementation of the 2023 FCPS mathematics program of studies.
- Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.
Chronic Absenteeism
Outcome:
- By June 2025, Mt. Vernon Woods ES will be under 15% for chronic absenteeism.
Strategies:
- Schools will share multilingual attendance materials with families throughout the year to educate families regarding the importance of attendance for school success.
- MTSS Schoolwide and Site Intervention teams analyze attendance along with behavior and wellness data bi-monthly to identify students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
- Schools will implement practices to recognize good and improved attendance to reinforce attendance and strengthen student and family engagement.
