  • Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School

  • Region 3

English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome:

  • All 3rd grade students will demonstrate at least 200% growth on each domain measured on the Spring 2024 iReady assessment (compared to Fall 2023 iReady). All 3rd grade students will meet their “typical growth” as measured on the Spring 2024 iReady assessment.

Strategies:

  • Increase use of data (e.g., iReady, CORE, PASS, PRF, WIDA) to plan instruction and monitor progress for students demonstrating risk. (HLP 2-5)
  • Expand use of skills-based grouping to ensure students demonstrate mastery of foundational skills. (HLP 2, 5)
  • Improve use of interactive read alouds for building knowledge and vocabulary through texts that affirm students' lived experiences. (HLP 1, 3)
  • Family & Community Partnerships: Link family engagement activities to learning.

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome:

  • By the end of SY 23-24, 100% of students will access rigor through 3 Advanced Academic mathematics lessons per semester and demonstrate growth on a performance math task (practical, real world problem designed to engage in mathematical problem solving) by improving at least one level according to a common rubric.

Strategies:

  • Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.
  • Increase teachers implementation strategies related to Shift 8: from looking for correct answers towards revealing student thinking.
  • Schedule ESOL teacher push-in ELD instruction during math instructional time.

Chronic Absenteeism

Outcome:

  • By June 2024, Mt. Vernon Woods ES staff will reduce our chronic absenteeism percentage by 6% (from 23.6% of students in the 2022-2023 school year to 18.6% students in the 2023-2024 school year).

Strategies:

  • Strengthen school team practices to monitor attendance data and determine need for intervention and additional support.
  • Increase opportunities for personalized early attendance outreach.
  • Create a school culture of engagement & belonging for students and families. Every staff, student, and family will feel safe and connected to the school community.
