Why work at MVW?
Mount Vernon Woods is a special place to work! We are a community school. We are a collaborative community valuing diversity while fostering flexible thinking, positive relationships, and ensuring high expectations for all students.
I chose MVWES because of the mission to provide students with a loving environment and access to an high-quality education. I also chose MVWES because I believe that Gina [Principal O'Neal] has carefully selected a staff full of highly-effective teachers and is committed to completing the work to narrow achievement gaps. -Jasmine McDaniel, 5th Grade
My favorite thing about MVWES is about the amount of support we have as teachers, you will never feel alone. Also the community the school is located in, our parents are very supportive. -Diana Escobar, Special Education Teacher
I remember sitting in the office waiting for my interview. As I waited, teachers came in and out, chatting with each other and the office staff. I was struck by the warmth that I noticed in those interactions. It seemed like a welcoming, inviting place to work. Seven years later, even with a lot of staff and leadership transition, that same warmth is alive and well here at The Woods. I know now that it extends beyond the staff to our relationships with students and their families. I stay here because my co-workers share the value of building those relationships first and foremost, along with a passion for nurturing and educating all children. In my Pre-K class, we often talk about how we are a "school family," so we need to be kind and caring toward each other. I feel like our larger school family demonstrates that empathy on a daily basis. The Woods is without a doubt a special place to work and learn! ~Jenny Conklin (Pre-K)
